#ABCD OF MOLES SKIN#

This leaflet deals specifically with melanoma, the less common but more deadly type of skin cancer. Treating skin cancer as early as possible is crucial to survival, which is why you should make appointments with your dermatologist a priority. MOLE WAY TO CHECK There are two main kinds of skin cancer: melanoma and non-melanoma skin and each looks different. Your index finger is about 10 millimeters across, so any mole more than half the size of your first finger should be checked out at your dermatology care center. Any mole larger than about 6 millimeters should be evaluated for possible skin cancer. B Borders: Irregular, scalloped, or poorly defined border C Color. Even blurry borders could be a sign of a problem and potentially, even skin cancer. If you spot a mole that has a jagged or uneven border, you should head to your dermatologist’s office right away. But, moles that could be cancerous are irregular in shape, size, color, or texture. Look for moles with irregular shapes, such as two very different-looking halves. The letter E is used as a mnemonic for this expansion or evolution of skin lesions (thus. Normal moles are symmetrical-the same all the way around.
